At first blush it might seem that the iPad isn’t for the creation of content but only for the consuming of content. With over 100,000 apps and rising though, there are a number of very useful apps for content creators including web designers. We’re going to look at 5 of them.
- Dropbox – Free: If you aren’t using Dropbox you really need to get onboard. New users get 2GB of free storage with the option of getting up to 16GB in space by referring friends to Dropbox (500mb per referral). The iPad app is invaluable to helping you have anywhere anytime access to all of your files while making sure that you are always working on the latest version of the file. Changes are synced to all devices with Dropbox installed. Genius.
- iMockups – $6.99 - Allows you to work on design ideas quickly and easily before you commit to putting all kinds of time into a full blown design comp in Photoshop…
- Penultimate – $0.99 - A great, inexpensive app that allows you to sketch your ideas freehand. Lots of pen options, accommodates lefties, has wrist drop protection and much more.
- Gusto – $9.99 - A full featured code editing environment for the iPad. Has a built in FTP client and a nice coding editor that recognizes multiple languages, tabs and much more. A definite keeper.
- Photogene – $2.99 – A nice photo app for doing some quick touch ups and changes while in the field. Suitable for most quick and dirty photo tasks. Includes red eye, cropping, exposure and much more… Syncs with Dropbox as well. Well worth picking up at the price.
I could have easily included many more apps in the mix. Honourable mentions include the WordPress app, PSD Viewer, Corkulous, Flipboard, Mashable, Keynote, Pages and Evernote. Honestly though, with so many apps available on the iPad we could literally mention hundreds of apps that could help.
Is there a favorite app you use that I didn’t mention?
